Newark among Best Communities for Music Education COURTESY OF BRENDA SCHOOL The National Association of Music Merchants designated Newark Central School District as one of the Best Communities for Music Education in the U.S. for the ninth year in a row. Now in its 22nd year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation goes to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.  To qualify, NCSD answered questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities and support for the music programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by the Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

It’s a big move, but one that she says will be all about keeping the district ‘moving forward’. “Teachers and administrators everywhere have had to pivot quickly and learn many new things and employ many new strategies to meet the diverse needs of their students during this time,” Hasenauer said in a press release. “Parents and families have had to do likewise, including readjusting their lives and schedules to support home learners or those with varying school schedules. As a parent of two school-age daughters, I’ve experienced some of the difficulties. The only constant is that nothing has stayed the same and things continue to change regularly.”

The Newark Central School District Board of Education has chosen Susan Hasenauer as the next Superintendent of Schools. Hasenauer comes to the district with more than 27 years of educational experience, 16 of which came in leadership roles. She is joining the Newark CSD from the Brockport Central School District where she has served as the Assistant to the Superintendent for Elementary Instruction. “We are very excited to welcome Ms. Hasenauer to the Newark Central School District,” said Board of Education President Russell Harris. “Through the search process, it was clear that Ms. Hasenauer’s vision and passion align with our district’s needs and culture.
