President Moon Jae-in on Monday named ex-Vice Justice Minister Kim Oh-soo as his new prosecutor-general.
Maverick Prosecutor-General Yoon Seok-youl resigned on March 4 after a concerted campaign by the government to oust him as his corruption investigations got too close to President Moon Jae-in s inner circle.
The government is determined to push through prosecution reforms, but what started as an effort to make it more transparent and less subservient to those in power has turned into its opposite.
Kim is seen as a compliant figure who served under scandal-ridden justice ministers Cho Kuk and Choo Mi-ae and has himself been accused of scheming against Yoon before he resigned in April 2020.
