Regents of the Regional University System of Oklahoma voted to conduct interviews with 15 candidates for president of Southwestern Oklahoma State University with campus locations in Weatherford and Sayre.
The regents met Friday (January 29) in Edmond.
RUSO Executive Director Sheridan McCaffree said zoom interviews will be done with the 15 during the first part of this month with the list narrowed for in-person interviews to be conducted when the regents meet again in late February in Weatherford.
The selection process started with 83 candidates that applied for the position currently held by SWOSU President Randy Beutler, who is retiring June 30.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University with locations in Weatherford and Sayre has announced that it will name the university’s first Parks & Recreation Management endowment in honor of the late Dr. Ken Rose.
A native of Clinton, Rose completed his undergraduate studies at SWOSU in 1967 and earned his master’s degree, also from SWOSU, in 1970. He earned his Doctorate of Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1980. Rose was a committed scholar and an expert on SCUBA diving who conducted extensive research on the effects of hyperbaric pressure on divers and the psychological factors impacting diver performance.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford continues to offer an educational opportunity to eligible high school students with no costs to families.
Upward Bound is a federally funded college prep program funded through the U.S. Department of Education that offers services to qualified high school students based on family income and/or being a first-generation college student.
The SWOSU program, directed by Jamie Novey, supports high school students from the seven schools, including Burns Flat, Canute, and Clinton.
SWOSU officials say students may enter the program in the 9
th, 10
th or 11
th grades. Participants in the program are offered year-round academic counseling, cultural and educational field trips, social activities, tutoring and career exploration.

After announcing that the Pioneer Cellular Event Center at Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford would be a Covid-19 vaccination distribution site every Friday, the school has now announced that the number of people treated will be going up.
In a press release, SWOSU College of Pharmacy Rural Health Center Coordinator Randy Curry said 300 vaccinations were given at the initial clinic held January 8. That number will increase starting this Friday (January 15) when the site could potentially give up to 940 vaccinations.
Curry said the Pioneer Cellular Event Center site has been approved and set up as a point of distribution. The vaccinations being given now at SWOSU are for people over 65 years of age.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University has announced that faculty and students are helping with the distribution efforts of the Covid-19 vaccine.
In a press release, officials say vaccinations will be given every Friday at the SWOSU Weatherford campus.
SWOSU Rural Health Center Coordinator Randy Curry said right now the vaccinations being given at SWOSU are for people over 65 years of age.
Vaccines will be given from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Pioneer Cellular Event Center, located on the west side of campus.
SWOSU pharmacy students have already been helping with clinics in Clinton and Taloga and, along with SWOSU nursing students, will be utilized at the clinics at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
