SCHS Class of 2021 graduates | Vevay Newspapers

- Advertisement -   The Switzerland County High School graduating class of 2021 will probably go down in county annals as the class which had the most unique final two years of high school but none of that mattered on Saturday morning at the seniors went through commencement exercises and took their place as alumni of Switzerland County High School.   The class finished its junior year in virtual classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and then went through its entire senior year under many COVID-related restrictions.   On Saturday morning, each graduate was given 10 tickets for family members and friends to attend the ceremony in order to stay within COVID guidelines on the number of people who could assemble indoors; so about 1,000 people were in attendance with others watching the ceremony via telecast by the school technology team.

It is nice to have a family visit and I am sure a lot of people in town are celebrating this weekend as Switzerland County High School is celebrating the class of 2021.   We are definitely in full summer mode including yard sales at a variety of different homes in town on June 4th and 5th so come out and support your fellow town members, or set one up in your yard and purge yourself of unwanted items. If you can’t sell your stuff and would still like to get rid of things  spring clean up for Patriot  will be going on and the dumpsters will be available at the water barn located  at 11317 State Road 156 on Friday June 4th from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday June 5th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. These are for town of Patriot residents only and will be monitored by the Patriot Town B

  Deaths this week: Margaret Merrill, Robbie Kincaid, Donald Works, Don Burress.   Switzerland County High School held its graduation ceremony for the class of 2011 on a hot, sunny Sunday afternoon, but the large crowd inside the gym witnessed a wonderful commencement.   Jacob Chandler, who graduated form Switzerland County High School in 2008 with academic honors, has graduated from Ivy Tech College with an associates degree in Applied Science.   Jennifer South, a 2007 graduate of Switzerland County High School has graduated from the University of Southern Indiana with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.   On a bright and sunny Memorial Day, a large crown of Switzerland County residents and visitors took some time to come to the Veteran’s memorial at the courthouse for annual services.

Queen of Hearts is Sunday at Switzerland County High School

- Advertisement -  The Switzerland County FFA chapter will hold its annual ‘Queen of Hearts’ pageant this Sunday, May 23rd. The pageant will be held in the Switzerland County High School cafeteria, and will begin at 3 p.m.   This year there are seven candidates vying for the title. The pageant is unique in that each contestant chooses a platform that will make an impact in the community. The Switzerland County FFA chapter then adopts the platform of the winning contestant for the year.   Contestants will also be judged on an interview involving their platform; sportswear; evening gown; and a response to question during the pageant.
