Recent rain has no impact on county drought conditions

Chris Dillmann/cdillmann@vaildaily.com Despite the recent onset of rain in Eagle County, drought conditions remain at historic levels, ranging from severe to exceptional across the region. Colorado wildfires: rain helps fight fires but hurts burn scars

Rain helps fighting Colorado wildfires but hurts burn scar areas Rain is acting as a double-edged sword in Colorado. It helps with fire containment, but also creates mudslides. Author: Darius Johnson Updated: 5:35 PM MDT June 30, 2021 COLORADO, USA The rain is playing two different roles in Colorado. It’s allowing fire crews to create fire lines and requiring Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) crews to work a harder to keep people safe as they monitor mudslides in burn scar areas. As of noon today [Wednesday] we are expecting rain in the forecast,” said Elise Thatcher, CDOT Region 3 Communications Manager. CDOT is preparing as best as they can for new troubles caused by the 2020 wildfire season, especially in and around Glenwood Canyon near the Grizzly Creek burn scar.
