Committee votes to increase size of Missouri Conservation Commission

A proposal to increase the size of the Missouri Conservation Commission and insert members of the Missouri House into the selection process won narrow approval Monday in a House committee.
But not before that committee was increased by eight members last week by order of House Speaker Rob Vescovo, R-Arnold, as the vote was looming.
When the constitutional amendment proposed by Rep. Chris Dinkins, R-Annapolis, had a public hearing Feb. 22, there was clear resistance from some Republican as well as all Democratic members of the House Conservation and Natural Resources Committee.
It wasn’t long ago when a “public meeting” of the city council or state legislature meant the general public could show up to watch and, quite often, speak about proposals and perceived.

School districts could issue teaching permits to people who aren t state certified to teach under a proposal debated by lawmakers this week.
Rep. Bishop Davidson, R-Republic, said the permits could account for 5% of the teaching faculty within a single district and would address a number of Missouri’s K-12 needs.
“One is the immediate teacher recruitment issue of getting teachers and more teachers into our schools,” Davidson said of House Bill 439.
“Two, I think more broadly, ensuring that we can bring in teachers and have an adaptive teaching profession to what is an evolving economic outlook. I think we are moving away from the 40-year, retire at 62, single-career workforce, and more towards a five to 15-year multi-career workforce, he said. I think this creates a more adaptable teaching profession that s going to be able to take advantage of that multi-career workforce in the future.”
MISSOUIR- A proposed bill within the Missouri House of Representatives would require public health officials to treat gyms in the same manner as health care facilities. If passed, the bill would require public health officials to acknowledge that if a situation occurs where hospitals can operate, gyms must operate as well.
House Bill 762 was introduced by Rep. Jason Chipman (R-Steelville).
Chipman said the importance of physical health was a major factor in his proposal. The doctor tells you at the end of every office visit to eat better and get more exercise, he said. If anything, this is just people following the doctor s orders. Stronger people almost always survive.
