Two trucks carrying illicit cigarettes seized Tracking system to roll out from July 1 to cover tobacco manufacturing Reuters April 17, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The Inland Revenue Enforcement Network (IREN) squad of Rawalpindi Regional Tax Office, in a major counter-evasion operation, has seized two trucks illegally transporting non-tax paid counterfeit cigarettes for supply into the local market. The trucks were loaded with 300 cartons of counterfeit cigarettes of Classic Brand and Kissan Brand each, containing six million cigarette sticks, stated a press release issued by the Federal Board of Revenue on Friday. It was mentioned that the market value of the seized cigarettes comes to Rs18,900,000, involving unpaid duties and taxes worth Rs12,646,500. Some of the counterfeit cigarette brands are manufactured in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and then transported across markets nationally without payment of duty and taxes. 600 cartons of counterfeit cigarettes seized National April 17, 2021 ISLAMABAD: After seizure of 600 cartons of counterfeit cigarette brands, FBR’s Member Inland Revenue (IR) Operation Dr Mohamad Ashfaque said the Track and Trace System would be rolled over across the country from July 1, 2021. The AJK has also approached the FBR for installing the system. The member stated that the board was drafting new rules whereby only the cigarette brands registered with the FBR could sell in Pakistani markets. APP/File ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has claimed that tax evaders have been hindering its efforts to streamline tax collection and the ongoing stream of litigation only helps them delay the implementation of Track and Trace System (TTS). The FBR made the argument in its reply recently filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) while defending challenge to award of a licence to a private firm for TTS implementation to trace and prevent leakage of billions of rupees in revenue.
