Minister of Tourism Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane addressed Parliament as part of the budget vote of her department.
She said the Tourism Recovery Plan will be the main focus during the financial year.
She would like to see the challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality addressed as part of the process.
The main focus of the Department of Tourism during the current financial year will be on the implementation of the Tourism Sector Recovery Plan, Tourism Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane said during her department’s budget vote presentation to Parliament on Tuesday.
The plan, which was developed with input from the private sector, has three main strategic themes, namely protecting and rejuvenating supply, reigniting demand and strengthening long-term sustainability.

Former Minister for Tourism Brendan Griffin has called upon the government to include an additional bank holiday this year to give Irish tourism and hospitality a boost.
Speaking at the Dail Eireann on Wednesday, the Kerry TD asked for the additional bank holiday to be put in place at the end of September, by which point most restrictions will ideally be lifted.
Ireland is currently due to enjoy three more bank holidays this year; on June 7, August 2, and October 25.

UNWTO Secretary General endorses Malta s tourism recovery plan
MALTA, April 29, 2021 Over the past weeks, the Malta Tourism Authority and Malta’s Ministry for Tourism and Consumer Protection have been working tirelessly on incentivising the various niches of Malta’s tourism sector, as the Maltese Islands is set to start welcoming tourists in June. Taking to Twitter, the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organisation, Zurab Pololikashvili, said that the key elements needed to effectively restart tourism are: policies which are based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals; committed resources; innovative strategies; and, efficient vaccine roll-out. “I’m pleased to see that Malta is doing just that with the implementation of its 2021-2023 short-term tourism recovery plan,” he added.
