The average occupancy per room in accommodation units in the Algarve was 7.6 percent in January, representing a drop of 78.9 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the main hotel association in the region.
The Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises of the Algarve (AHETA) released provisional data of the variations verified in the accommodation units in the region in the first month of 2021 and pointed out that the sales volume is also 83.5 percent below what had been achieved during the last year.

The hotel industry in the Algarve recorded an average occupancy rate per room of 14.5% percent in December, the lowest value ever, announced the Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises of the Algarve (AHETA).
The president of AHETA, Elidérico Viegas, told Lusa agency that “2020 was the worst year ever for Algarve tourism, with the breakdown taking place in all tourist-emitting markets”.
According to data provided by the association, the approximately 80 accommodation units that remained in operation in December in the region registered a drop of 60.7 percent compared to the same period in 2019.
