People looking to learn more about what to do with their preserves are in luck.
Chef Murray Zehr, the owner and executive chef of 1909 Culinary Academy in Blandford-Blenheim Township, has released a book to help with pandemic cooking at home.

The book, What Else Can I Do With Preserves?, was released Sunday and aims to help all levels of cooks use preserves in the pantry for at-home cooking.
“It is exciting to know more people are jarring, canning, and wanting to experiment with a wider variety of food items, including preserves,” Zehr said in a Tourism Oxford release. “I am proud to take the traditional methods of yesteryear and turn them into innovative recipes for this book.”

A service delivery review headed to Oxford County council will begin looking at possible service improvements and cost savings after consultations Woodstock and the county’s seven other lower-tier municipalities.
During January and early February, Oxford’s lower-tier councils were visited by two representatives from Strategy Corp., a management consulting firm that specialize in helping private and public organizations, for a series of virtual workshops.

The workshops were run by Strategy Corp’s John Matheson, a well-known municipal adviser, and Michael Fenn, a senior adviser to the company and former deputy minister who worked in municipal politics for decades.

The goal of the program is to help farmers advertise and guide shoppers to farm businesses. It helps directly connect farmers and customers to local food.
“We are lucky to be surrounded by some of the finest farmland, agricultural businesses and producers in Oxford County,” Dirk Boogerd, the Oxford County Federation of Agriculture president, said. “By supporting the Oxford Fresh Laneway Signage program, we make it easier for residents to access locally grown and produced food and goods.

A trio of local entrepreneurs was recognized through innovation grants and mentorships after successfully pitching a county support program.
The three were each awarded a $3,000 grant and a mentorship for their successful pitches to the Oxford County Spark program, launched to encourage innovative ideas in the region’s tourism sector.
