Extended Lockdown for Three Villages; Vaccinations Up
In cabinet news, Minister of Health and Wellness informed the cabinet that as of July twelfth, over one hundred and seven thousand Belizeans or twenty-five percent of the population received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and almost forty thousand or nine percent are fully vaccinated. In the first week of the new vaccination campaign, almost twenty thousand people were vaccinated. Unfortunately, after receiving an update on the number of new COVID-19 infections, cabinet had to extend the lockdown in the southern villages of Barranco, Midway and Conejo until July thirty-first. Cabinet approved an upgrade to the water system in San Antonio Village in the Toledo District and gave Tourism Minister Anthony Mahler the green light to sign a revised Constitutive Agreement of the Mundo Maya Organization. Nicole Usher-Solano, as well as senior staff from the Belize Tourism Board were all in attendance. But visibly absent were Marketing Director Misty Michael and Tourism Director Karen Bevans. Today at the Biltmore Plaza in Belize City, Prime Minister John Briceño along with his C.E.O. Narda Garcia and Minister of State, Christopher Coye as well as Tourism Minister Anthony Mahler met with stakeholders from the agro-productive sector. It is part of the government’s ongoing budget consultations. While with Minister Mahler, he reflected on how the meeting went.
