Sandwich commission holds state accountable for Lily Pond cleanup EAST SANDWICH It s been more than four months since a railroad embankment failed and left thousands of cubic feet of material in a small kettle pond beneath it. Now the Massachusetts Department of Transportation has been charged with the cleanup. During a remote hearing last week, the Sandwich Conservation Commission unanimously voted to hold the state agency accountable for maintaining the pond s fish habitat and wildlife.
