Taking a cue from Governor Abbott with gas supplies being at risk, Amarillo ISD is taking steps to help conserve energy, resulting with the district closing classrooms for the rest of the week.

About that “taking your kids back” promise. it turns out the return to school will actually be delayed a little longer than we anticipated. All jokes aside, as the City of Amarillo explained in a news conference last night, gas supplies are at risk and we’re all being asked to take some steps to help conserve energy. Yesterday, the new threat level being monitored (the one regarding electricity in our area) went up to a Level 2. While I am not certain of the specifics, I gather it is worse than Level 1 and not as bad as Level 3.
Level 3 is when we go back to rolling blackouts.
To help keep us from needing to go back to Level 3, several city and county offices are remaining closed for the rest of the week.
The biggest shock was Amarillo ISD, Bushland ISD, and Canyon ISD. All have announced that there will be no school Thursday and Friday. I ve often joked how it would take an act of God to get school to cancel around here.
A New Texas Program Now Helping Renters Facing Eviction
As our country turns a new chapter, there are thousands of Texans facing eviction due to past due rent. Many of these families have taken job losses and have become desperate. Fortunately there is a brand new program to help individuals and families who are behind in rent and may be facing eviction.
The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) has received approximately $1.3 billion in Emergency Rental Assistance funds from the newly passed Coronavirus Relief Bill Rental Assistance Program. TDHCA is using the funds to help Texas renters pay rent and utility bills, including past due rent and utilities. This is a huge lifeline for those Texans who are struggling.
