When he attended the school in the 1950s, it was called Southwestern Louisiana Insititute, and he was one of the first African Americans to enroll at the school, just as integration was starting to be seen in more and more cities across the country.

Lafayette resident celebrates 102nd birthday and last updated 2021-02-26 20:55:50-05 KATC would like to wish Ms. Jessie of Lafayette a very happy 102nd birthday! Ms. Jessie, who lives at Lady of the Oaks, celebrated her birthday Friday with a party. The staff tell us Ms. Jessie got to order out for lunch. She chose Don s Seafood, which she followed up with some birthday cake. Ms. Jessie was also surprised by a dance put on by the staff. I m thankful that they re putting on a show for me, Ms. Jessie said of the party. It s really nice for a 102nd birthday, to be celebrating it like this.
