Updated: 5:15 PM EDT May 26, 2021 WXII12.com Web Staff Three teenagers arrested in connection to the death of a 17-year-old found on a field across from East Surry High School on May 6 will be tried as adults, deputies said Wednesday.Surry County deputies and SBI agents arrested a 16-year-old girl and two 17-year-old boys on May 7 for their direct involvement. They are charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. They are being held in the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. Detectives with the Surry County Sheriff s Office testified during a grand jury proceeding on Monday, and a true bill of indictment was issued for the charges. With graduation later this month, school officials and students at area high schools are looking forward to a more typical ceremony. Last year, schools were forced to drastically alter their ceremonies and limit guests due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Surry Early College High School kicks off this year’s graduation festivities, holding their ceremony on campus on Friday, May 21 at 7 p.m. In event of rain, the ceremony will be moved to Saturday, May 29 at 2 p.m.
