The diamond drills extend toward the tunnel s end, manipulated by twin booms. Once the drilling is complete, explosives finish the job and the tunnel advances at a rate of about 8 metres a day.
The drills are silent for the moment but despite the damp, the air is dusty. And the tunnel is filled with the thrum of the ventilation system and the low rumble of a huge front-end loader. Back and forth it travels between the rubble in the tunnel s depths and the surface, a length of some 300m.
April 2021 214 Emirates Aviation University (EAU), a leading educational institution for aeronautical and aviation studies in the Middle East, has introduced a wind tunnel to its facilities with a grant from Boeing Middle East. The new wind tunnel will give students practical and experimental learning opportunities to examine flow physics around aircraft and other vehicles and machines. Over 400 undergraduate and postgraduate students at EAU’s School of Engineering will benefit from the new wind tunnel. As a teaching tool, it will enable them to conduct experiments under different simulated wind force conditions. The wind tunnel complements the EAU School of Engineering’s curriculum which has a focus on providing hands-on experience and research opportunities for Bachelor degree programmes such as Aerospace Design Projects, Experimental Techniques, and Flight Vehicle Dynamics & Stability; as well as Master’s degree programmes like Computational Fluid
For decades, a tunnel through Teton Pass has been a curiosity for Teton County residents, a pie-in-the-sky aspirational fix to the avalanche problems on Highway 22.
Eager citizens have penned letters to the editor to the News&Guide and its predecessors in support; a few political hopefuls have included it in their platforms, hoping to prove their commitment to audacious community solutions.
That advocacy has been to no avail.
But depending how fortuneâs wheel spins, the Teton Pass tunnel could one day be a reality. The subterranean highway is again on officialsâ minds, as the Wyoming Department of Transportation has included it in a wishlist of projects to be sent to the Biden administration as part of the American Jobs Plan, the infrastructure bill Congress is considering.
An undersea train tunnel between Finland and Estonia is a step closer to becoming a reality, with a protocol of intent to build set to be signed by both countries on April 26.
At 103 kilometres long - twice the length of the Channel Tunnel - it will stretch under the Gulf of Finland to connect the airports in both capitals, Helsinki and Tallinn, with two train stations in between.
Currently linked only by ferry, the project aims to bring the two cities together into a single metropolitan area.
It s hoped the tunnel, which could be ready by December 2024, will provide economic growth for the countries.
