NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - A new documentary on theBlue Ridge Railroad Tunnel is set to premier on YouTube March 17.
The film was produced and directed by Charlottesville couple Paul and Ellen Casey Wagner.
The Tunnel tells the story of how the Blue Ridge Tunnel was first built by the Irish between 1850 and 1858, and how it was restored between 2002 and 2021. The immigrants who fled the famine in Ireland to seek work in America make up the center of the story. The work was dangerous and many men and boys were injured or killed as a result of cave-ins and explosions in the tunnel.

Motorists can expect traffic disruption due to the incident.
The Dubai Police on Friday afternoon warned motorists to drive with caution after a car caught fire in a tunnel on the Palm Jumeirah road.
Taking to twitter, the Dubai Police alerted motorists about the incident. They informed them to expect traffic jam on the road leading to Atlantis The Palm.
A Dubai Police official said that it was not a serious incident and there were no injuries.
The authorities have told motorist to expect traffic delays caused by the accident.
Historians aren t sure why people during medieval times used the tunnel, but they believe that the Nazis may have used it for shelter and storage.
From 1121 to 1637, the Griffin dynasty ruled the Duchy of Pomerania from Ducal Castle. They erected several castles, but Ducal Castle was the most important among them.
Ducal Castle was constructed under Barnim III, Duke of Pomerania, in 1345, who ruled Pomerania-Stettin from 1344-1368. He co-ruled the Duchy with his father, Duke Otto I, until 1344, when his father passed.
Then Barnim III became the sole leader and during his reign he aimed to make the duchy independent of Brandenburg, Germany. In 1348 he achieved his goal with the help of Charles IV of Luxembourg . This alliance strengthened the political position of the duchy but created additional conflict with Brandenburg.
The Balama tunnel is the most ancient water tunnel discovered in Palestine, but it still needs to be fully explored so it can turn into a tourist attraction.
