Webb County, in conjunction with the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the Texas Army National Guard, held its first Save Our Seniors COVID-19 vaccination initiative on Wednesday.
This ongoing partnership targets homebound rural area residents who face challenges such as medical issues or lack of transportation that may prevent them from getting vaccinated.
The Emergency Management Division under Judge Tano Tijerina and the Indigent Health Care Services department coordinated the kickoff event that was at Rancho Peñitas in the Mines Road area where over 80 vaccines were administered.

A man has been arrested in connection with a series of car burglaries that were reported in the Mines Road area on the night of Feb. 7, according to Laredo police.
On March 4, Luis Gerardo Ticas-Arizmendi, 21, was served with multiple warrants charging him with six counts of burglary of a vehicle and four counts of theft in the 500 block of Norwich Loop.
“The vehicles in these cases were left unlocked. We remind the community to practice preventative measures by locking their car at all times and to report any suspicious activity,” LPD said in a statement.

Two people were injured in a rollover crash reported early Monday in northwest Laredo near The Green Ranch Subdivision, authorities said.
First responders said the driver of the vehicle lost control due to ice on the road on FM 1472. Laredo Fire Department crews responded at about 1:26 a.m. to treat a 32-year-old and a 16-year-old, both males.
Both were taken to a local hospital. The 32-year-old was in stable condition while the juvenile was reported in critical condition.
