SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) Gov. Kristi Noem issued a news release (below) late Tuesday evening noting a major shakeup in leadership at the South Dakota Department of Corrections and the State Penitentiary.
The release, issued at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, said that earlier in the evening, Noem had placed Secretary of Corrections Mike Leidholt and State Penitentiary Warden Darin Young on administration leave.
Former Adjutant General Tim Reisch will now serve as interim head of the DOC and Doug Clark, currently, the Deputy Secretary in the DOC will be the acting warden.
According to an anonymous complaint linked in the release, there were staff complaints of nepotism, sexual harassment, poor equipment, poor training, low pay, dwindling benefits, and improper spending on non-essential items and projects.
