Recently, Nigerians, who were already agonising in the atmosphere of unabating insecurity, were greeted with yet another bad news; an imminent fuel price increase. What is more disturbing is the call for them to bear the pains of the increase, as if they ever had any respite from all the years of persistent price rise in petroleum products. Fortunately, towards the end of last week, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), through its spokesperson, Kennie Obateru, said there would be no fuel price increase. The President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers of Nigeria, Elder Chinendu Okoronkwo, has debunked recent reports that the Nigerian government is planning to increase the fuel pump price in the first quarter of the year 2021.
Okoronkwo told SaharaReporters on Tuesday while reacting to the speculations on social media that a litre of petrol could be sold for N180.
Recall that the pump price of premium motor spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, was increased by the Nigerian government to N151.56 per litre on September 2, 2020.

The Oyo State Police Command has paraded 26 suspected kidnappers who have been terrorising Ibadan and Ibarapa areas of the state.
Some of those paraded are alleged to have murdered their victims after collecting ransom from their families.
Also paraded were 13 suspected armed robbers; a 72-year-old pastor of Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Jimoh Odunayo, who allegedly defiled a 13-year-old girl; and a 56-year-old lawyer, Remi-Oladiti, who also defiled a 14-year-old girl.
The state’s Commissioner of Police (CP), Ngozi Onadeko, who paraded the suspects on Wednesday, said some of them participated in the kidnapping and murders of Oluwole Agboola in Akinyele Local Government Area; and a local government Chairman, Hon Adeleke Jacob Olayiwola.
