The early years foundation stage group at Beech House School has won a first place prize in this year’s National ISA Art competition.
The Independent Schools Association (ISA) National Art Competition is held annually for schools to showcase their pupils’ art and for teachers to share best practice and ideas. There are dozens of classes to cover different age groups and genres, from 2D art, through to fashion and photography.

School environments were viewed as potential super-spreaders, considering the amount of interaction among learners and teachers, and the frequent use of surfaces such as desks, boards and chairs. Learners also use communal toilets and taps for drinking water, hence it was feared that schools were dangerous places for the transmission of the virus.
The strategies focused on remote and mostly digital learning activities, including online learning, encouragement to read textbooks and listening to educational television and radio programmes. The Malawi National Examinations Board ( MANEB) has extended the registration of candidates and payment of examination fees for 2021 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education ( PSLCE), Junior Certificate of Education( JCE) and Malawi School Certificate of Education( MSCE) examination to 8th April 2021.
According to a MANEB statement, the extension is in response to the revised school calendar.
Leadership of the Independent Schools Association of Malawi, (ISAMA) president, Joseph Patel, said the extension was a welcome idea.
He ,however, said they are hopeful that examinations will be out before April 8th,2021.
“Am hopeful that examinations will be out as Maneb was finalising on marking. The extension is just okay over one month. The period will give time to parents to find examination fees. We thank the government for making the extension,” he said.
Over one in 10 current COVID-19 cases are children, with the highest number in the 11-17 age group, prompting Church and independent schools to hold out while monitoring the situation closely.
Among the active cases, 83 children are aged up to five years, 85 are between six and 10 and 175 are in the 11-17 age group, adding up to around 12 per cent, according to the Superintendent of Public Health, Charmaine Gauci, who was on Tuesday taking questions from Times of Malta readers.

The number of infected children was also highlighted in August, when they made up around 1.5 per cent of active cases.
