Join Us May 4 … in Person or Virtually Apr. 16, 2021
Visit Orlando is about to hold our first major member function in over a year, and I’d like to extend an invite. Our Travel & Tourism Event is being offered virtually and in person (with limited seating) May 4 from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Orange County Convention Center’s Valencia Ballroom.
If you’ll be joining us face to face, register soon to secure a spot ($20 for members, $35 non-members); the link also includes an option for free virtual attendance.
Of course, just as our destination has set the standard for safe, in-person meetings and experiences, our Travel & Tourism Event will include temperature checks, mandatory masks and social distancing.
US tradeshow sector forms new advocacy alliance
A coalition of eight US event industry associations has formed a new advocacy group, the Exhibitions and Conferences Alliance (ECA), to lobby the interests of the US exhibitions and conference sector with legislators.
ECA describes its role as being, “to help government officials understand the important role events have on economies and job creation. We promote the impact of the sector, drive general industry awareness, monitor legislative issues, advocate for the industry’s common interests, and work with partners globally as needed, to maintain a favorable operating environment within the US.
“ECA provides a long-term strategy focused on creating substantive relationships with policymakers and ensuring priority matters are heard”.
Positive signs regarding a quick recovery for the exhibition industry in 2021
UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, has released the latest edition of its flagship Global Barometer research, which takes the pulse of the industry.
Results highlight the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the exhibition industry worldwide, in 2020. There are also positive signs regarding a quick recovery in 2021.
Globally, between April and August 2020, more than half of all companies reported no activity. This situation changed from September, where the majority of companies declared some operations, at reduced levels for most. Looking ahead to 2021, the share of companies expecting a return to “normal” activity is expected to grow from 10% in January to 37% in June.
