While local residents pointed to work being carried out by the BMC in the area for the coastal road project, as a reason for the pipe rupturing, a civic official stated, the pipeline may have burst due to fluctuating water pressure.

During a meeting held in September 2020, the consultants mentioned that it would not be possible to reach the project site during the four months of monsoon. Following it, Maharashtra PWD Minister Ashok Chavan had issued the directions to prepare a detailed report on the project.
