The loan agreement between Deutsche Bank and NCDC is expected to be signed on Tuesday in presence of Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and other dignitaries. “It is for the first time a German bank is coming forward to lend us ₹600 crore, which may seem less as compared to the ₹3,000 crore exposure we have to Sumitomo Mitsubishi Bank of Japan.

NCDC ropes in KVKs for formation & promotion of FPOs

The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), a cooperatives focused organisation under the Union Agriculture Ministry has roped in ICAR’s Institutions and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in 116 blocks for formation and promotion of Farmers Producers Organisations (FPOs) in the country under a central scheme, says a press release issued by NCDC. Of the total 717 KVKs which have spread across India, 468 are under the administrative control of state agricultural universities, 65 under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and 22 under central agricultural universities in the country. As per the NCDC, ICAR Institutes and KVK’s in 116 blocks will work as Cluster Based Business Organizations (CBBOs) under the Central Scheme which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year with an aim to bring small and marginal farmers into production value chains and help them boost their income.

India s first FPO under co-op act takes birth in UP; NCDC to handhold

Country’s first Farmers Producer Organisation (FPO) – a green chilli and mushroom processing unit has been registered under the ambit of the Cooperative Societies Act in Varanasi, according to a press release issued by NCDC. Registered on February 26, 2021, Krishak Utpadak Sanghthan Evam Audyanik Viparan Sahkari Samiti, in village Tikri under Kashi Vidyapeeth Block of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh will be set up for processing high value vegetable products. The focus commodities of the FPO are mushroom and green chilli. The FPO falls within the Prime Minister’s Parliamentary Constituency. Generally, the FPOs are registered under the Companies Act. However, this is the first time that such an entity has been established under the Cooperative Societies Act as the part of the Government’s Central Sector Scheme titled “Formation and Promotion of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs)” to form and promote 10,000 new FPOs.
