All told, the U.S. was not a participant in the Paris Agreement framework for only a few months.
On his first day in office, President Biden signed an order to rejoin the agreement. Just 30 days after Biden’s signature, the U.S. became a party to the accord once again on Friday.
But that s just a starting point for climate action. A group of states, cities and companies welcomed the milestone by launching a new coalition to push the Biden-Harris administration toward a more aggressive national commitment to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
Under the Paris Agreement, the Obama administration pledged to cut overall U.S. emissions by 26 to 28 percent from 2005 levels by 2025, but those reductions along with commitments from other countries are insufficient to keep temperatures below what scientists say are the most dangerous levels of warming.

Neoen, one of the world’s leading and fastest-growing producers of exclusively renewable energy, has announced that it has been awarded 81.6 MWp in the call for tenders for ground-mounted solar farms held by the French government – CRE Innovation and CRE 4.9.
The 73.6 MWp won in CRE 4.9 is split between five projects, from 3 - 39 MWp, all following Neoen’s develop-to-own model.
Totalling 39 MWp, Loirecopark, the ground-mounted solar park in the Sarthe region, France, located on land belonging to a consortium of local authorities, will be one of Neoen’s largest in the country. The park will help restore former military land that has suffered from chemical pollution. When it opens in late 2022, the plant will produce enough green electricity to supply 26 000 people.
Gas and Germany’s energy transition [NGW Magazine]

Summary With coal and nuclear fast coming offline, Germany will need more gas to support its renewables expansion and keep the lights on when there is no wind and sun. [NGW Magazine Volume 6, Issue 4]
by: Andreas Walstad
The share of gas in Germany’s power generation mix has been rising steadily over the past few years, from less than 10% in 2015 to 16% in 2020 according to Eurostat data and estimates from think tanks Ember and Agora Energiewende.
As nuclear and gradually also coal is phased out, the share of gas is expected to continue to rise.

SAE, the global sustainable energy generation company and technology developer, is has announced that its Scottish built tidal turbine and generation equipment have been successfully installed in the Goto Island chain in Japan. The tidal turbine clocked its first 10 MWh of generation within the first 10 days of operation and is now producing clean electricity in Japan.
The project included leasing tidal generation equipment and providing offshore construction services to Kyuden Mirai Energy (KME) for a pilot turbine located in the straits of Naru Island, within the southern Japanese Goto island chain. The SAE designed and manufactured AR500 tidal turbine was assembled at SAE’s operations and maintenance base at Nigg Energy Park in Scotland. The turbine was assembled and tested in nine weeks before shipping to Japan.

Sonnedix, the global solar independent power producer (IPP), has completed the construction of one of its largest solar photovoltaic (PV) plants to date: the 170 MW Sonnedix Atacama, located in the Atacama Desert, Chile.
Construction of the solar plant, located in the Atacama Desert in the commune of Pica, began in June 2019. On 30 January 2021, Sonnedix Atacama started injecting energy into the Chilean National Electric System.
“We are extremely proud of the work and dedication put into this project, and thankful to the regional and local administrations for their support”, said Sergio del Campo, Representative Director of Sonnedix Chile. “Sonnedix Atacama will generate around 470 GWh/yr of clean electricity, powering more than 100 000 Chilean homes. In addition to that, this project allows us to fulfil our ‘social citizen’ role through initiatives such as our Atacama Community Investment fund, supporting the economic development of our communities funding
