Startling admission after Turnbull sacking

Environment by Erin Lyons and Finn McHugh 7th Apr 2021 11:39 AM   Former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull has hit back after he was sensationally dumped from his role as chair of an advisory body on climate change. But the minister responsible for sacking him has made a startling admission. Speaking on breakfast television, Mr Turnbull accused NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro of wanting more coalmining in the Upper Hunter Valley, describing it as a shocking betrayal of the people . They (Mr Barilaro, One Nation s Mark Latham and the NSW government) want to keep ripping up that valley for open cut coalmines even though export demand for coal is declining, even though existing mines are operating below capacity, even though new mines and new extensions to existing mines will only put workers in current mines out of work, he said.

Why Malcolm Turnbull was REALLY dumped from Clean Economy Board

Calling for a moratorium on new coal mines in NSW just hours before a Hunter Valley MP quit, trigging a by-election, contributed to Malcolm Turnbull being dumped from a clean economy job. NSW Environment Minister Matt Kean has admitted the comments made by the former Liberal prime minister on ABC radio a day after he was made chair of the state s new Net-Zero Emissions and Clean Economy Board helped seal his fate. It wasn t helpful, Mr Kean told ABC radio on Wednesday. Malcolm Turnbull has been dumped from his new job as the NSW government s climate change tsar Mr Turnbull s five-year appointment rankled many of Mr Kean s conservative coalition colleagues, given his comments about the coal industry.

I lost the support of my colleagues : Kean explains decision to dump Turnbull

7 April 2021 NSW energy minister Matt Kean has said that he had lost the support of his NSW coalition colleagues for the appointment of Turnbull to chair the Net Zero Emissions and Clean Economy Board and was therefore forced to back out of making the appointment. Speaking to ABC Radio National on Wednesday, Kean said that he needed to ensure that whoever led the zero emissions advisory board would have widespread support across the community. “What became apparent in the last week is that some sections of the community that we needed to bring on this journey were alienated by this decision,” Kean told ABC Radio National.
