Using plastic bags in Islamabad can land you a fine of Rs5,000 from March onwards.
The Ministry of Climate Change had decided to take strict action on the use of plastic bags in the city.
People caught using plastic bags will be fined Rs5,000, while shopkeepers and manufacturers Rs10,000. A fine of Rs20,000 will be imposed on those who continue to reuse plastic bags. The bags will be seized too.
One billion mangroves to be planted to stop intrusion of inland areas

ISLAMABAD: The climate change ministry has devised a comprehensive plan to plant one billion mangrove trees in Sindh and Balochistan to cope with the growing challenge of intrusion of inland areas.
Talking to the media here on Friday, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam said a plan had been finalised in consultation with various national and international stakeholders to enhance mangrove forest cover in Balochistan and Sindh.
He said the communities in the coastal areas were facing adverse impacts of the climate change, particularly cyclones, coastal erosion, sea-level rise and consequent intrusion of inland areas.

Islamabad, December 14, 2020 (PPI-OT): Three-member delegation led by the China’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong Monday called on the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam and discussed various matters of bilateral interest including environmental sustainability, climate resilience and renewable energy, according to a press statement issued here today. “We have discussed in detail various matters for enhanced bilateral cooperation and opportunities pertaining to the fields of post-Covid-19 green economic recovery in Pakistan by enhancing investment in nature-based solutions and green job creations, environmental sustainability, climate resilience, forest management, air pollution, water conservation and disaster risk reduction,” Malik Amin Aslam said.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China Monday agreed to turn China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) into a model green belt and road initiative to protect and preserve natural environment in the region.
It was decided during a meeting held here between Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam and a three-member delegation headed by China’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong.
Various important issues came up in the meeting such as environmental sustainability, climate resilience, renewable energy, green economic recovery, air pollution, water conservation and disaster risk reduction. Malik Amin Aslam informed the ambassador that the government had already launched an ambitious Protected Areas Initiative under the umbrella programme ‘Clean Green Pakistan’.
