When Rodrigo Romo was hired at St. Augustine, “Terminator 2: Judgement Day” dominated the box office while “Justify My Love” by Madonna was about to top the charts.
It has been quite a ride for Romo who is in his in 30th season with St. Augustine boys’ basketball his 19th as the head coach, as he was an assistant for the first 11 years. During his time as the head man of the Knights, he has led them to eight district titles, four bi-district titles, two area titles and two regional finals. St. Augustine has also made the playoffs in 17 of the last 18 seasons under his guidan

Laredo City Council for at least the next two years will feature more women leaders than ever before; District VII Councilmember Vanessa J. Perez is one of these new members coming into office.
“I want people to know that I have their best interest at heart,” Perez said. “Laredo is my hometown. I love Laredo. I encourage people to get involved in shaping this city into the place they aspire to live. I want people to feel like their voice matters, so I plan on soliciting input regularly from the residents of District VII.”

Recently-retired LMT photographer Cuate Santos was recognized by the Webb County Commissioners Court on Monday for his 39 years of service to the community.
Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina lauded Santos for always being himself kind, good-humored, low-key and professional.
“You’re all heart and you’re all love,” Tijerina said.
Commissioner Wawi Tijerina said she and Santos go back a long way, having grown up together in Colonia Guadalupe.
