COVID-19 vaccine distribution ramping up throughout the US

(WSIL) -COVID-19 vaccines are being distributed at a rapid rate in the US. 116 million vaccines have been distributed so far, with 92 million of those already in people s arms. By April, the U-S is expected to have 3 million doses available per day. Vaccine distributors hope the vaccine will eventually be more accessible to everyone. Hopefully once there is a greater supply, this product will work itself into the normal supply chain, just like all other vaccines, be it the flu vaccine or other pharmaceuticals. So that s the ideal outcome, I think. That this turns into the normal supply chain, and life gets back to normal, said Vice President of Affairs at the Healthcare Distribution Alliance, Matthew  DiLoreto.

Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), Merck & Company, Inc (NYSE:MRK) - Medically Necessary: Stimulus Bill Has Billions For Vaccine Distribution, Executive Orders Signal Supply Chain Focus And Merck Helps J&J Produce Vaccine

$5.2 billion for research and development related to vaccines or therapeutics. Some of that money could also go to manufacturing and production, but the bill doesn t specify how much.  The bill s text focuses on COVID-19 but would also allow the agency to use the funds for other diseases. The Food and Drug Administration would receive $500 million. Part of that money would go toward facilitating COVID-19 vaccine manufacturing, inspecting manufacturers producing vaccines or therapeutics, and oversight of the supply chain.  Part of the supply chain oversight would include mitigating drug shortages, which has been a major problem during the pandemic. Bottom line: The final text of the stimulus bill is far from settled, butits approval by the House sets the stage for massive government investment in the health care supply chain.

(KEYC) - COVID-19 vaccine distributions are seeing an uptick across the state. Healthcare Distribution Alliance has been coordinating a five percent increase in COVID-19 vaccines being distributed throughout Minnesota and that number is expected to continue to grow in the next couple of weeks. They’ve now started sending the vaccines to local retail pharmacies. Distributors have been working overtime. “There are many states that are having challenges across the board. What we are seeing as a national trend though is supplies getting into the state. The distribution of the vaccine getting into the state and the number of shots actually getting in arms is starting to equalize,” says Matt DiLoreto, HDA Vice President of Government Affairs.
