MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Countywide, 23 new COVID-19 deaths have been reported within the last 24 hours, a new record for Shelby County.
A spokesperson for the Shelby County Health Department says the deaths occurred between Nov. 3 and Dec. 9.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 783 Shelby Countians have died from coronavirus.
On Friday, 625 new coronavirus cases were reported. More than 59,300 people have been diagnosed with the virus since the beginning.
There are currently 6,049 active COVID-19 cases. Within the last 14 days, 2,554 people have been placed in quarantine.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Tennessee Department of Health identified 8,945 new COVID-19 cases and 177 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, making this the stateâs record number of virus-related deaths.
Tennessee is inching towards 500,000 total cases with the number being 493,230 as of Thursday.
TDH has also identified a total of 5,845 deaths since the pandemic began. This surge in cases and deaths comes as healthcare workers brace for limited capacity in hospitals across the state.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Thanksgiving surge of COVID-19 cases continues, and so does the strain on the areaâs hospital systems.
The Shelby County Health Department is reporting 779 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, with nearly 2,700 infections having been reported in the last three days.
Hospital capacity is as tight as itâs ever been in the pandemic, with ICU utilization in metro hospitals at 98% and acute care utilization at 95%.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Tennessee COVID-19 cases have increased by 11,410 cases within the last 24 hours with an additional 53 virus-related deaths.
The Tennessee Department of Health also says there have been 68 more Tennesseans admitted to the hospital due to COVID-19 complications. There are currently more than 2,800 people hospitalized across the state due to the virus.
Health officials say the Mid-South is seeing the effects from Thanksgiving gatherings. TDH data shows active cases are topping 66,700.
