Beverly Zwick, President of the La Palma-Cerritos Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), said that she would like to wish everyone a “Happy and Healthy New Year!” After suffering through months of quarantine, illnesses, injuries, and personal losses, she, and branch members, pray that the New Year brings everyone nothing but “Sweet Memories.” Members are looking forward to being able to meet in-person again in 2021.
The pandemic changed what members have done every year at holiday time to help clients at Su Casa, a safe place for abused women and children. Due to the Covid-19 virus, Su Casa representatives said that members could not shop for groceries, or bring toys, games, books, clothing, and personal items for residents this year. Members were asked to donate cash or gift cards for Target, Wal-Mart, Ralph’s, Food 4 Less, or other local grocery stores. Persons who wish to donate cash or gift cards can still donate directly to Su Casa because help
Even though the holiday season is going to be different this year, there are still plenty of ways to get in the Christmas spirit by helping others in Long Beach.
The Long Beach Branch NAACP is collecting gift cards to help underprivileged, low-income children get gifts for Christmas. Mail cards to LB NAACP, P.O. Box 1594, Long Beach, CA 90801. The deadline is Dec. 11.
The American Red Cross is hosting more than a dozen blood donation events Dec. 11 through Jan. 4. The first one is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at the Long Beach Playhouse, 5021 E.
