PHILADELPHIA Gritty stripped off his Philadelphia Flyers jersey and black shorts and left only his green belly button exposed as the final horn sounded.
Much like their mascot, the streak goes on for the Flyers.
They finished yet another season without a Stanley Cup they haven’t won one since consecutive championships in 1974 and 1975 and this ends as one of the more disheartening ones in franchise history.

Thanks to unreliable goaltending, a broken defense and an ineffective special teams, the Flyers’ season came tumbling down, erasing all of the good juju the team had built after the resumption of the 2019-20 season and through the first stretch of this campaign.
With this season officially in the rearview mirror, it’s only right to hand out some “awards” as a way to put a bow on this excruciating season (h/t to Jimmy Kempski for the format):

The Flyers penalty kill was miserable this season.
A bottom 10 unit, the Flyers looked completely lost when playing a man down (and didn t look much better when having a man advantage, either). Between the loss of Matt Niskanen, who was an astute penalty killer, and the poor play of the goalies, the Flyers couldn’t get out of their own way when it came time to defend for two minutes with a man down.

21 Pennsylvania senators are asking Gov. Tom Wolf to move up the removal of of most coronavirus restrictions. 20 of those senators are Republican. The lone Democrat is the Lehigh Valley s Lisa Boscola. The governor plans to remove all but the mask mandate on May 31st, Memorial Day. The 21 senators are pushing him to move that up to the Friday before Memorial Day, May 28th. The governor s office responds by saying those 21 senators would be better served by pushing residents to get vaccinated.

Tonight was the final game of the 2021 season for the New Jersey Devils and the Philadelphia Flyers. Outside of odds for the 2021 NHL Draft Lottery, this game had no real meaning beyond it being the 56th and final game of the season for both. To a player, this was a game where they could make one last good impression for their next contract. But the game was otherwise an obligation. Yet, the Devils managed to do what they have done throughout most of the season and disappoint the fans who paid attention to it anyway. The Devils lost their last game of the season 2-4. As usual, it is not so much that they lost that is the issue, but how it happened.
