Most local elected officials contacted have received COVID-19 vaccine

Newark Advocate NEWARK  A survey of 23 elected officials in Newark, Heath and Licking County governments shows a majority have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. The Advocate asked for a response from the mayors of Newark and Heath, council members from both communities and the three Licking County Commissioners. Sixteen said they have already received a vaccine and two others plans to do so. Four did not answer the question and one said he is not sure if he ll get the vaccine. The Ohio Department of Health reports 34% of people in Licking County, or 58,018, have received at least one dose of a vaccine. And, 24% of Licking Countians, or 40,860, are fully vaccinated. The Licking County Health Department has given 30,000 doses.

WHIZ News Library Welcomes New Mascot MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The John McIntire Library is welcoming a brand new member to its team. Hoobert the owl is the library’s mascot who was originally created digitally with the help of the community. Now, Hoobert is able to take part in events and come to the library in person.  “I think that Hoobert’s big role is going to be encouraging children to visit the library…Hoobert is going to serve as an ambassador to the community for the library to encourage children to come in, pick up a book, learn, engage in programming and just get excited about reading, learning, and visiting their local library,” Marketing and Community Relations Director Sean Fennell said.

Library To Begin Streaming Podcast

WHIZ News Library To Begin Streaming Podcast ZANESVILLE, Ohio-The Muskingum County Library System is launching a brand new podcast hosted by Sarah Brinkman.  Brinkman is an outreach assistant for the library and the podcast is her passion project. The podcast will begin streaming on Wednesday, February 17th.  “It’s been a vision of mine for a while now. I was doing Facebook Lives during the start of the pandemic so this is kind of a  spiritual successor to that. I listen to a lot of podcasts so it seemed like kind of a natural fit… The podcast is called Reread, Rewrite, Recommend. It’s basically a little bit about libraries, we’re gonna have a guest on every episode.”, Brinkman said.

Library Offering Bonus Checkouts

WHIZ News Library Offering Bonus Checkouts The offer is valid through the end of February. Marketing director Sean Fennell tells us more.  “Hoopla, for the month of February, will be offering what they call bonus borrows. You’re allowed fifteen checkouts a month on Hoopla, and that can be anything from an ebook to an audiobook, movie, television series and music, but during the month of February Hoopla is offering bonus borrows which allows you to get any of those titles and they won’t go against your fifteen.”, Fennell explained the offer. The library system and Hoopla have long been partnered to offer easy checkouts. Fennell is very happy with the partnership.
