BEIJING, May 4 (Xinhua) China on Tuesday urges the Philippine side to earnestly respect China s sovereignty and jurisdiction over the Huangyan Island, and stop taking actions that may complicate the situation in the region.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks in response to a query about a statement issued by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs on Monday, which protested against Chinese Coast Guard vessels patrols in waters off the Huangyan Island. By Andreo Calonzo (Bloomberg) The Philippines has protested China’s “dangerous maneuver” against its Coast Guard that patrolled and trained last month near a South China Sea shoal, with Manila’s top diplomat issuing expletive-laden remarks towards Beijing.
The Chinese Coast Guard shadowed, blocked, and issued radio challenges on Manila’s crew near Scarborough Shoal, the Philippines’ Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement Monday announcing that it has protested China’s actions. China’s claim over the shoal that’s 124 nautical miles from the Philippines “is without basis” and Beijing has “no law enforcement rights in these areas,” it said.

This was contrary to an earlier statement made by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque that the DFA secretary “personally apologized” to Ambassador Huang Xilian over the controversial tweet.
“Hindi sa Chinese ambassador. Trabaho niya ay tumanggap ng reklamo o insulto. Kay State Counselor Foreign Minister Wang Yi, ang pinaka matalino at personableng diplomat sa buong mundo. (Not to the Chinese ambassador. His job is to receive complaints and insults. It’s with State Counselor Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the most intelligent and personable diplomat in the world). Harry understands my hair-trigger temper under repeated provocation,” Locsin said in a tweet.
