Harrell led with 38% of the vote following an initial ballot count Tuesday night. M. Lorena González, who was elected to the city council in 2015 and began serving as council president in 2020, has 29% of the vote. Colleen Echohawk and Jessyn Farrell are trailing the top two candidates, each with 8% of the vote. The top two candidates in the primary election move on to the general election in November.

Rich Smith The people running for local office (and the deep-pocketed independent expenditures that support some of them) have spent the last couple weeks making their closing arguments to voters. They ve also ramped up spending to make sure voters hear those arguments as loudly as legally possible. In a last-minute push to get out the vote and answer any lingering questions the electorate might have, over the weekend several campaigns donned personal protective equipment and hit the doors. Many of them discovered a theme: despite plenty of mailers in mailboxes and ads on television, a fair number of voters still had no idea who they planned to vote for.

Teresa Mosqueda takes strong lead in primary race for Seattle City Council at-large position

Credit: KING Author: KING 5 Staff Updated: 9:13 PM PDT August 3, 2021 SEATTLE Incumbent Teresa Mosqueda is leading the primary race for the Seattle City Council Position 8, after an initial ballot count Tuesday night. Mosqueda has 55% of the votes. Trailing is Kenneth Wilson with 19% of the vote, followed by Kate Martin. A total of 10 candidates faced off in the primary election for the at-large position on the council.  The top two primary candidates advance to the general election in November. Mosqueda raised at least $176,000 in donations and Democracy vouchers, well past any of her opponents.

Sara Nelson leads in primary race for Seattle City Council Position 9 Seven candidates were on the ballot to replace outgoing Council President Lorena González for her at-large position on the council. Author: KING 5 Staff Updated: 10:24 PM PDT August 3, 2021 SEATTLE Sara Nelson and Nikkita Oliver took an early lead in the primary race for Position 9 on the Seattle City Council. Nelson leads with 43% of votes, followed by Oliver with 35% of the vote. Nelson, the co-owner of Fremont Brewing, ran against Mosqueda in 2017, and said she decided to run to help get the city back on track, and wants to get the voice of a small business owner on the council.
