Chris Carr
Chris Carr is the Star Tribune s Assistant Managing Editor for Sports. A native of Richfield, Carr grew up reading the Star Tribune. Somewhere in his mom s basement is an old photo of Chris, sitting on 1970s shag carpet in some groovy brown corduroys, holding a Star Tribune that was bigger than he was. After graduating from Wisconsin-Eau Claire, He worked in Washington D.C., Milwaukee and Charlotte before jumping at an opportunity to work for the hometown newspaper. He will always only own male dogs, so he at least has a fighting chance at home against the three ladies (two little ones, one grown-up) of his life.
Orbit Sports charges Wolves and Lynx owner with breach of contract, “silence and stonewalling.”
The potential sale of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx hit a big bump in the road on Wednesday. New Jersey-based Orbit Sports LLC, which owns more than 17 percent of the teams, has filed suit against Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor alleging that the Minnesota billionaire is breaching the partnership agreement with Orbit. ESPN first broke the news on Wednesday night.
Taylor has struck a widely reported deal to sell the teams to Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore for $1.5 billion. The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Minneapolis, lists Taylor, Taylor Corp. and Taylor Sports Group Inc. as defendants.
The death of Jim Klobuchar on Wednesday brought back memories of the 1960s Star Tribune sports department, fully alive and fighting for every inch of space.
Reusse: First Klobuchar conquered Sid, then came bigger mountains May 13, 2021 12:00pm Text size Copy shortlink:
There are a number of things to cite on the state of newspapers in the 1960s to explain the taut relationship that existed between Sid Hartman and Jim Klobuchar, two giants of Minneapolis media.
Sid died last October at age 100. Klobuchar died on Wednesday at age 93. This occurred on the same day that Jerry Burns, among the Vikings legends chronicled by Klobuchar, died at 94.
I was 17 when first entering the Star Tribune building as a sports copy boy for the Tribune in August 1963. Klobuchar was covering Vikings training camp in Bemidji, so it took a couple of weeks before getting a chance to observe the interactions between Klobby and Hartman, then the Tribune sports editor as well as a daily columnist.
