In February, the government published these regulations as part of the Civil Liability Act 2018 – they establish the final tariff table for soft tissue or whiplash injuries and clarify that a medical report is required in order to settle a whiplash injury-related claim.
However, Elsby believes the new tariff table “allows insurers to save money at the expense of injured people”.
He said: “The proposed tariffs for whiplash injuries are derisory and offensive and will almost certainly leave people under-compensated.
“The lowest tariff provides just £240 for pain and suffering that will affect an injured person for up to three months - this is not anywhere near the appropriate level of compensation.

THE wife and partner of two brothers who died in a tragic sewer incident in Co Dublin have secured settlements totaling €175,000 of their High Court actions.
Stephen Harris, 34, and his brother Alan Harris, 45, who were first cousins of Irish star Robbie Keane, died as a result of being overcome by toxic gas while working in a sewer at Drumnigh Wood estate in Portmarnock, Co Dublin, in June 2015.

AM Best Maintains Negative Outlook on UK Non-Life Insurance Market April 9, 2021
AM Best is maintaining a negative market segment outlook on the United Kingdom non-life insurance segment, citing economic uncertainty as a key headwind for UK non-life insurers.
In addition, COVID-19-related lockdown measures coincided with the country’s exit from the European Union, which together contributed to the biggest economic contraction since records began, said AM Best, noting that this is expected to maintain pressure on premium income.
The UK’s gross domestic product (GDP) contracted by 9.8% during 2020, noted the ratings agency, quoting the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
