Mary E. Budro
Mary Ellen Budro, 79, a resident of Richfield Springs (RS), NY, passed away on Good Friday, April 2, 2021, at the Charleston, SC, home of her loving daughter who was by her side.
She was born in Plattsburgh, NY, on May 8, 1941, the daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha (Brien) Vernosky. A graduate of Lyon Mountain High School, Mary was employed as secretary to the principal in the RS Central School District for many years. She was a notary public who was involved with the NYS Board of Cooperative Educational Services and the Civil Service Employees Association.
Prior to moving to RS, Mary served as a law office assistant in Ticonderoga, NY and as a secretary at SUNY Plattsburgh.
One SUNY student said if officials really want to reduce exposure on campuses by forcing students to get vaccinated, then all segments of the higher education community should be required to get a jab.
âI feel like thatâs messed up ⦠Itâs not fair that they can choose not to get it, Madison Mack, a senior international relations major at Buffalo State, said of SUNY employees not be covered by the vaccination edict.
Extending the mandatory vaccine order for SUNY employees would run into unions representing those workers that have something college students donât have: political might. SUNY last year enforced mandatory testing for students in certain cases, while, according to one SUNY document, such testing was âstrongly recommendedâ per written understandings between SUNY and various unions representing employees at the college system.

New York s largest public workers union on Monday called for expanded treatment options for mental health services as public health advocates worry anxiety and depression are on the rise amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Civil Service Employees Association is making the push as part of Mental Health Awareness Month, but also weeks after lawmakers approved a $212 billion state budget that reduced the number of state-operated treatment beds in New York, a move the union opposed.
“Our state legislators shamefully put people’s lives on the line when they voted to pass a budget cutting treatment beds. New Yorkers should rise up and demand more mental health services, not less,” CSEA President Mary Sullivan said.
