Dries Van Noten On Dance, China and Kylie Jenner

At first, it looks like an exorcism. Dancers from the ages of 16 to 64 convulse, writhe and gyrate in crisp shirtdresses and blood-red heels to the sound of Massive Attack’s Angel. Then come blurry flashes of shimmering dresses covered in vermillion paillettes, and sober coats with rose graphics, as the dance intensifies. Trancelike, you find yourself inexplicably glued to the screen. This was what Dries Van Noten wanted you to experience when watching a film he created around his fall-winter 2021 collection. “We actually had tears in our eyes when we saw those dancers move on stage, after not being able to perform for a year,” the Belgian designer tells me over a video call. “It was like everybody released all the raw energy they had pent up inside, and it felt very real.”

Conservative wins in TWO key Darlington Council vacancies

THE Conservatives have won two wards in Darlington Borough Council - one remaining Tory and the other a gain from Labour. Jack Sowerby has held the post for Conservative for Hummersknott, while David Willis is the new councillor for Red Hall and Lingfield, previously Labour. In Hummersknott, Mr Sowerby won with 971 votes - turnout was 62.63 per cent, with 1,951 ballot papers issued. In Red Hall and Lingfield, Mr Willis won with 466 votes - turnout was 33.99 per cent and 1,109 ballot papers were issued. Darlington MP, Conservative Peter Gibson, said he was delighted with the result. He said: Both have been working very hard to get to know the people in their wards.

Eleven fight for seats on slim majority Darlington council

Darlington Town Hall ELEVEN candidates are set to challenge for the opportunity to help influence how a local authority with a narrow majority carries out its various activities. By-elections are being held in two contrasting Darlington Borough Council wards – Hummersknott and Red Hall and Lingfield – following the resignation of two councillors elected in May 2019. Labour councillor for Red Hall and Lingfield Sam Howarth stepped down from the role, for which an £8,188 annual allowance is paid, after moving away from the area. Conservative councillor for Hummersknott Paul Howell encountered criticism for continuing in the role as well as a Durham County councillor following his election as the Sedgefield constituency MP.
