OVIEDO, Fla. – Two crashes in the same area the first a fiery hit-and run and the second involving a sheriff’s deputy’s cruiser prompted the closure of State Road 417 in Seminole County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The first crash was reported Friday morning on northbound S.R. 417 near Red Bug Lake Road in Oviedo.

FHP spokeswoman Kim Montes said a Ford struck the back of a Lexus, and the driver of the Ford ran away. The Ford then caught fire, troopers said.

Hundreds of people began their Christmas Eve shopping at the Target on Red Bug Lake Road in Oviedo.
“Yes, I am cutting it close, but this is almost like a tradition for me,” Kurt Shoup said. “I just want to make sure everyone is happy on Christmas morning.”

Shoup said his family did most of their shopping online this year, but with a few presents still on the list, he decided to brave the crowds.
“It’s going to be terrible, to be honest,” Shoup said. “It’s going to be a zoo, so I’ve got to be patient.”

Southbound traffic on State Road 417 in Seminole County was at a standstill Monday morning due to a multi-vehicle crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The wreck was reported before 8 a.m. involving a truck and a sedan at Red Bug Lake Road, according to FHP.
According to FHP Sgt. Kim Montes, a sedan was traveling north when it crossed over into southbound lanes, hitting a pickup truck.
The driver of the sedan was taken to the hospital as a trauma alert, troopers said.
