GUWAHATI: BJP on Saturday lambasted Congress for accusing Modi of not talking about the core issues of Assam during his visit to Sivasagar on Saturday.
Countering Congress, chief spokesperson of the state BJP Rupam Kumar Goswami said, “Instead of criticising PM Modi, they could have shown their strength by staging protests today. But they have failed to do so. Even, the participation of people in the limited protests organized by a few organisations across the state is also poor. They have missed it.”
Talking about the farmers’ condition, Goswami said those protesting at the national capital are not genuine farmers. “They are middlemen. And more importantly, are there farmers only in Punjab and Haryana? Farmers are not protesting anywhere,” he said, claiming that the BJP government under the leadership of PM Modi has taken many initiatives for the welfare of the farmers along with all sections of society.
GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday projected BJP as the sole protector of the ‘mul niwasi’ (indigenous inhabitants) of poll-bound Assam as he doled out pattas to landless natives at the historic Sivasagar the heart of the massive protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in December, 2019.
“Today, special emphasis is being given on preserving the language and culture of the original inhabitants of Assam as well as securing their land rights. The new land policy made in 2019 shows the commitment of the government here. As a result of these efforts, more than 2.5 lakh indigenous families have been given land leases in the past years. Now, more than 1 lakh families will be added to it. The goal is to ensure that every such family in Assam should get legal land rights as soon as possible,” Modi said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said rapid development of Assam and northeast region are integral part of self-reliant India and highlighted that the region is widening the country's connection with the eastern Asian countries under the 'Act East' Policy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Assam today, where he also distributed land allotment certificates to indigenous people under a state government programme to one lakh beneficiaries. It is a matter of sadness that even after so many years of Independence, there are those in Assam who have not got recognition for their land, PM Modi said after he distributed land patta or allotment certificates to the beneficiaries. At the event held in Sivasagar district, PM Modi also praised Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and his government for ensuring that indigenous people get their recognition.
