The stubborn growth of new COVID-19 infections has prompted Ontario to put two more regions into its grey, or “lockdown,” level of restrictions, despite pleas from businesses, local politicians and in one case, the objections of a local medical officer of health.
Both York Region, a sprawling suburb north of Toronto, and Windsor-Essex County, in the province’s southwest, will join Toronto and Peel Region under the province’s highest level of restrictions on Monday at 12:01 a.m.

Retailers in Manitoba will soon be able to keep their doors open longer on Sundays and holidays after the province expedited the proclamation of new legislation to eliminate current restrictions.
This new legislation announced today by Finance Minister Scott Fielding will take effect on Saturday, December 12.
“Given the current public health restrictions in place to protect Manitobans, we want to provide flexibility to businesses and customers and allow more opportunity for curbside pickup and delivery options as well as longer in-person shopping hours to minimize crowds,” said Fielding. “During this critical time for retailers across the province, we believe these updated laws will help many businesses with additional revenues as we head into the holiday season.”
