CYBERJAYA, Feb 3: The National Water Services Commission (SPAN) is investigating the discovery of 19 barrels of scheduled waste at vacant premises near the Sungai Langat in Taman Seri Reko, Kajang, yesterday. SPAN, in a statement today, said the commission found 13 160-litre barrels and six five-litre barrels which contained solvents that were not properly managed, following information from the Kajang Municipal Council’s (MPKj) Enforcement Division. “This could potentially cause river pollution,” it said. The commission said in the event of pollution, the premises owner could be investigated under Section 121 (1) (c) of the Water Services Industry Act 2006, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or a one-year jail or both.

Air Selangor allocates RM293 mil for non-revenue water reduction programmes

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 25): Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has increased its capital expenditure allocation for its non-revenue water (NRW) reduction programmes this year to RM293 million from RM255 million in 2020. Of the amount, RM170 million will be used to replace all old pipes and RM16 million to replace old and damaged meters, said its chief executive officer Suhaimi Kamaralzaman.  In a statement today, he said Air Selangor has successfully brought down the NRW rate to 28.6% last year, versus 29.7% in 2019. He said this achievement exceeded the target rate of 29.2% set by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN), despite the implementation of the Movement Control Order to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.

Burst pipe causes water disruption in KL, Petaling, Hulu Langat

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 8): A total of 121 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling and Hulu Langat were experiencing unscheduled water supply disruption from 1pm today,  following a burst pipe in Jalan Sering, Taman Sungai Sering in Cheras. Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), in a statement today, said the incident was caused by the sewerage pipe installation works carried out by a third party on Jan 2. “The repair work is expected to be completed by 3am tomorrow and water will be supplied to consumers’ premises once repair work has been completed. “The water supply recovery time will vary from one area to another depending on the location and distance of the consumers’ premises,” it said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Several areas in Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang will experience a temporary water supply disruption, scheduled for two days starting Jan 12. Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) in a statement today said this was to facilitate work to transfer and connect new pipes near Persiaran Selangor Section 15, Shah Alam, which started at 9 am. “A total of 22 areas in Shah Alam, four areas in Klang and 10 areas in Petaling are expected to experience the scheduled water supply disruption. “Water supply will gradually resume from 9am on Jan 14,” it said.
