COVID-19 cases surpass 20,000 – Zambia: News Diggers!

THE Ministry of Health has announced that Zambia has recorded 234 new COVID-19 cases out of 4,884 tests done in the last 24 hours, breaching the 20,000 mark in cumulative cases. And Lusaka City Council (LCC) public relations manager George Sichimba says the local authority has warned 165 business premises for failure to comply with COVID-19 guidelines out of 267 business premises inspected. According to the daily dashboard update, Zambia recorded 234 new COVID-19 cases out of 4,884 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, while the country also recorded one facility death in Mbala and 84 recoveries recorded in eight provinces. Out of the new cases, 172 were recorded from Lusaka; 26 from Sinazongwe; 18 from Mongu; 13 from Chingola; 11 from Solwezi; six from Livingstone; five from Nakonde; four from Samfya; three from Chilanga, Ndola and Senanga; two from Chipata, Kabwe, Monze and Mushindamo, while Kalumbila, Kaoma, Kasama, Kitwe, Masaiti, Mazabuka and Mufulira recorded one case each.

Home / News & Events / United States Awards Small Grants to Zambian Community Organizations LUSAKA – The U.S. Embassy recently awarded K1.3 million to six Zambian community-based organizations through the U.S. Ambassador’s Special Self-Help small grant program.  These grants will expand economic opportunities and improve the standard of living in communities in four provinces. The Special Self-Help program grants provide financial support from the American people directly to Zambian community organizations committed to improving the lives of community members through sustainable projects that bolster food security, education, and health.  These organizations will take innovative approaches to reach traditionally underserved areas or populations.

Zambia : Zambia loses between 250 to 300 000 hectares of forest every year-Nachilala Nkombo

She said depletion of forest has negative effects that affect humans from having clean air and water. Speaking during the tree planting ceremony at Chilanga Golf Club Course yesterday, WWF Country Director Nachilala Nkombo disclosed that the aim for the activity was support the replanting of trees in Chilanga in order arrest the crisis of forest loss. Ms Nkombo stated that the replanting is also meant to educate government and the cooperate world to collectively preserve nature. “We know that for people in rural areas, losing nature also means losing capability to loss food and economic opportunities,” she noted. She called on government to ensure that every person who is authorized to cut down a tree should plant ten more trees in order to avoid deforestation.
