Best Things To Do In Johnson City - TravelAwaits

Apr.21.2021 Take a scenic drive down through the mountains, Blue Ridge to the east and the Great Smokies to the west, to reach Johnson City of East Tennessee. Johnson City oozes Southern charm and has the feel of a city much bigger than its size. If your visit is anything like mine, you will feel a connection right away. Johnson City has so much history (railroad, Civil War, and Revolutionary War) but doesn’t get lost in the past. It’s growing by leaps and bounds and one of the Tri-Cities (along with Bristol and Kingsport). Here is how to spend a perfect day in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Diane Maclean sculpture installed at University of Herts

The sculpture follows a series of pyramidal forms artist Diane Maclean has developed over the years for sculptures in the landscape. The colour of the material is created by daylight entering a clear oxide on the surface of the curved and polished stainless steel at varying angles. The colour changes through red, purple, blue and gold with the light of day and as perceived from different angles. This kind of scientific element is typical of Maclean’s practice. An alumna of the University of Hertfordshire, Diane Maclean is an established sculptor who has exhibited widely across the UK and Europe.

Mayoral Candidate Lawrence Chernoff, in his own words

by Contributor on Tuesday Apr 13 2021 Former mayor and current mayoral candidate Lawrence Chernoff For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Lawrence Chernoff and I am one of five mayoral candidates in the 2021 byelection. I was raised in Castlegar and have lived here my entire life.  Castlegar has always been my home. It’s the home of my children, and of my grandchildren. It certainly holds a special place in my heart.  I have been so incredibly fortunate to have served on council, for the most part, since 1987. This includes several terms as a city councilor and 13 years as mayor.  I was a paramedic for 29 years with the B.C. Ambulance Service.  I have truly dedicated my life to public service. It is something that gives me great joy; it’s a way to give back to a community that has given me so much.
