MICHAEL S ATHLETES SIGN TO PLAY COLLEGE SPORTS Family, friends, staff, and students gathered in the St. Michael’s Carter Athletic Center May 7 to celebrate Signing Day for six St. Michael’s seniors committing to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. “This is a proud day for the St. Michael’s athletic community. Only seven percent of high school athletes continue to play in college, and today, you join their ranks,” Athletic Director Jeff Dicus said. “Your hard work and dedication have paid off, and today, we honor your accomplishments as you commit to the next chapter of your athletic journeys.”

As summer time nears, so does camp season! Here s a list of ideas you may not have considered or known about to keep in mind as you plan. Registration space is limited for most camps and may no longer be available. Campers will explore ECHO’s special summer exhibit, Human Plus, to discover some amazing inventions that extend human abilities. They’ll discover how neuroprosthetic limbs can be controlled by a person’s thoughts and other marvels of biomedical engineering. They’ll even meet special guests from the community who work in this innovative field to learn about what it takes to engineer life-changing tools.

Apr 16, 2021 ALANSON, Mich. W. Ford Kaufman, 66, of The Shores on Crooked Lake, passed away on April 2 after a life lived gracefully with MS. Ford was born on August 5, 1954 in Gladstone, Mich. He was a 1972 graduate of Gladstone High School and earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in psychology from Western Michigan University, which led to his work as a behavioral psychologist. Ford loved sports, from his high school track relay team and later Murph’s Fast-Pitch Baseball Team, about which he had many fond memories. While still able, he fished for walleye and salmon with brother Mike (Mio) and friends on Lake Huron and Saginaw Bay. Ford was one of Mio’s Boys Basketball’s biggest fans – traveling from Kalamazoo for almost every single game when they were undefeated and State Champions in 1989.
