Worried about staying sharp as you age? Dr. Gupta s book is for you. Beth NIeman Brain health is the topic of “Keep Sharp: Have a Better Brain at Any Age,” a new book by Sanjay Gupta, MD. Sharing some of the exciting developments of brain research in recent years, Dr. Gupta informs readers of new discoveries you can put into practice to boost your own brain health. I was pleasantly surprised that the practical ideas he shares are easy and inexpensive for most people to achieve if they are aware of them. Congratulations to Roberta Brown of Cadillac for being the winner of last week’s book giveaway,  “The Better Brain Solution” by Dr. Masley, and thank you to everyone else who entered because we appreciate your support. This week I’m shifting, like the tide, over to thoughts of all things finned, likely because I am Catholic, and we just entered the season of Lent. Thanks to God, I got to grow up in the Great Lakes region of the United States, and while I was raised near its southern end in northern Indiana, I have had the pleasure of traveling completely around both Lake Superior’s and Lake Michigan’s shoreline, albeit via many separate trips.

Column: Memory loss concerns? Prevention can be as simple as going for a walk

Keeping my signature sharp | Post Bulletin

Written By: Loren Else | × I remember sitting at a table when a man gave my father a piece of paper and a pen. He asked my dad to sign his name. After putting pen to paper a couple of times, my dad, with a lost expression, slid the paper back, unsigned. My dad had a distinguished signature. At that moment, I realized my father could no longer sign his name. He would never emerge from several different memory care facilities across a couple of states. My father died 22 years ago. His plight has been on my mind recently. In particular, when I lose my focus, can’t find something I just had in my hand, or the classic “can’t remember why I went into that room.” I’ve felt frustrated, and am afraid that my brain is not firing on all cylinders.
