Rain Gauge Reports Million Dollar Rain?
April 2021 was the fourth driest in more than 110 years of records at the Southern Research and Outreach Center at Waseca. Plus, most farmers in our area received little to no rainfall in the first half of May. Saying the rain we received last evening and today was welcomed would be an understatement! I remember growing up my Dad would be talking to other farmers about a million dollar rain. Times have changed since than and I think you could call this rain a billion dollar rain!
In my travels it looked like the corn which was planted when the topsoil was not as dry had pretty good germination. The beans that were planted in the last couple weeks did not emerge nearly as well. Spraying my beans yesterday you would see emerged beans that looked good. Then a couple feet of bean rows that were missing. The beans were planted into dry soil without enough moisture for germination and emergence.
Kids (and curious adults, too ) will have a chance to get an up-close look at dump trucks, snowplows, law enforcement vehicles, and more at MnDOT s annual Rochester Transportation Fair this Saturday.
According to a press release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the event will be held at two locations including at Hoover Early Learning School and at Mighty Oaks Early Learning School from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 15th.
MnDOT is hosting the free event sponsored by Community Education, Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), Parents Are Important in Rochester (PAIIR), School Readiness program, and Rochester Public Works.

A Minnesota woman is in trouble with the law after literally crashing her ex boyfriends funeral in Fargo, North Dakota.
According to the Fargo Police Department, 28-year-old Blaine Whitten, from Barnesville, Minnesota
(about 30 miles South and East of Fargo), was not invited
(and according to family not wanted) at her ex s funeral. On May 1, 2021, Whitten attended anyway, and apparently sat in her vehicle.

When police got there, they tried to reconstruct what happened from witnesses. The general agreement was when the burial was over, a family member approached Whitten s vehicle, and that s when she floored it and ran over graves, and allegedly aimed to drive over the family member (who said he had to jump out of the way).
