For the week ending December 10, the average rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage was 2.71% with 0.70 discount points paid. Thats’s steady with the previous week, when rates declined to the 14th low of the year. One year ago, the average rate was 3.73%. “Mortgage rates remain at record lows, resisting their typical correlation to Treasury yields, which have recently been moving higher,” said Sam Khater, chief economist for Freddie Mac.
