Sonae MC to accelerate rollout of Meu Super stores in Portugal
Portuguese retail group Sonae MC is planning to accelerate the rollout of its Meu Super franchised stores in Portugal and Cape Verde in 2021. Last year, the group opened 17 Meu Super proximity stores, taking the total to around 300 and generating revenue worth €171mln, corresponding to an annual growth of 14%. Since January, Sonae MC has already opened 7 Meu Super stores, out of a total of 25 planned for this year. Bestway Wholesale restructures business

Bestway Wholesale has unveiled plans to restructure its senior management team to bring Bestway Wholesale and Bestway Retail together, enabling it to “harness its growing scale and talent”.
The company has confirmed that Mike Hollis, formerly retail director of Costcutter, has been appointed as Bestway Retail director. Hollis will lead a new retail division focused on helping independent retailers to grow their food and drinks business.
His leadership team is confirmed as Paul Adams (head of symbol fascia), Duncan Jelfs (head of franchise), Clive Binks (head of corporate stores), Frankie Haynes (head of central operations), and Jamie Davison (head of store recruitment and development).

Bestway retailers have seen an average basket spend of £48 with home delivery app Jisp, which is a 500% increase in participating stores versus the industry average.
The numbers come in as a result of a full rollout with Bestway Wholesale that began in March, with more stores coming on board every week.
Jisp been working with Bestway since November 2020 to bring home delivery, click & collect and scan & go services to its retailers across the whole symbol group.

Our app on average delivers over 400% increase on basket spend and over 500% increase on items per basket, so, considering we are only a few months into our full rollout with Bestway, the numbers are already exceeding our expectations”.

Shoppers using the Jisp shopping and payment app are spending an average £48 per basket, a 500% increase compared with the industry average, says wholesaler Bestway.
The numbers come as Bestway Wholesale continues to roll out the app across its retail estate.
Jisp has been working with Bestway since November 2020 to help its symbol retailers provide home delivery, click-and-collect and scan-and-go services.
